Meet Lisa Knodel-Baier, LMT in CapeCod
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Knodel-Baier.
Lisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my Medical Career 30 years ago as a Home Health Aide. I worked in several different doctor’s offices as a Medical Assistant. I decided to become a Massage Therapist, because my first Home Health Aide patient told me I needed to more with my hands. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist for ten years. I went to school at Lincoln Technology in Brockton, Massachusetts. While in school we had a lot of hands on training that consisted of going to Weeden College, MDA run in New Hampshire and the Boston Marathon where we massaged the runners for Children’s Hospital. After school I worked part time as Massage therapist while still working as a Medical Assistant. I worked for two different massage businesses before starting my own business two years ago. I started my own business, in a wellness clinic where I can offer my clients other services besides massage. Since becoming a Massage Therapist I have gone back to school to get certified in Lymphatic Drainage and Pediatrics. I currently have a certificate in Cranial Sacral One and working on Cranial Sacral Two. My goal is to get certified in Cranail Sacral, so as I age I can still treat my clients. I enjoy what I do for a living, a lot of my clients tell me I have magic fingers. They will ask me how I know were their problem areas are, I tell them your body tells my hands were the problems are. Like most of my clients I to suffer from spinal issues, this helps me understand them a lot more. They will start to tell me their symptoms and I can relate, sometimes they will ask me how I know what they are feeling, so I tell them I have some of the same issues they do. I tell them what helps me and if they want to try it go head. I like to do light yoga stretches, use a tennis ball, massages and running helps me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting my own business was stressful, just the uncertainty of not knowing what to except. At first not knowing how or where to market {advertise}. I belong to a marketing group and the chamber of commerce which as help me get my business known to the public.
Lisa Knodel-Baier, LMT – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Massage Therapist, who is licensed in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage. I am certified in Lymphatic Drainage and Pediatrics. I have a certificate in Cranial Sacral One and working on Cranial Sacral Two. I am known for treating my clients like family. I tell my clients the truth even if it means they see someone else for care. If there is something I don’t know or don’t have enough experience with I will refer the client to someone else. I am very proud of how far I have come in my business in the last two years. I take my time with my clients, listen to them and try to make the experience of massage the best they ever had.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as all my clients leaving my office happy and satisfied. My criteria is happy clients and I watch out for people that think they can get away with asking certain inappropriate questions.
